Until Simchat Torah - October 7, 2023 it had been an awesome, typical and busy year at Chabad! The Holiday programs, the Shabbat meals, the family programs, CTeen programming, the CTeen Shabbaton in NYC, the Women’s classes with ME, the Mega Challah Bake, and the many Chabad programs throughout the year. The energy and vibrancy of spending in-person time together brought joy and warmth to all!
And then came October 7... Our world seemed to stop and our hearts were broken as we heard and watched what our brothers and sisters in Israel were going through.
In launching their heinous acts of terror on October 7, our enemies succeeded in unearthing the deep sense of unity, faith and resolve that is at the core of the Jewish spirit.
They also revealed the blatant antisemitism and moral bankruptcy of those around the world who would defend and justify the barbaric murder, torture, and kidnapping of innocent men, women and children.
Our enemies thought they would extinguish our flame, in response however, Jews from all walks of life have been stepping up to extend their support for Israel, strengthen their commitment to Judaism, and heighten their involvement with the Jewish community.
Now more than ever it's important to gather and strengthen our Jewish experience. In addition to our regular Chabad programming, On October 9th, Chabad hosted a prayer service for our brothers and sisters in Israel. We joined the community vigil at the AJCC, spearheaded the Bring Them Home rally in Knoxville, and joined with the community in standing up to amendment L at the Knoxville City Council.
Chabad hosted a bake night for moms with college students to create Jewish pride care packages for their children on campus, we hosted a bake night and distributed homemade goodies to Jewish students on UT campus, hosted an event for teens to process all that was going on Israel, Chabad CTeen hosted a program for teens to help process all that was going on in Israel, we joined other chapters and started CTeen U courses for teens with the first course focusing on Israel. And finally, Chabad organized an epic Unite through Light Chanukah concert.
Most importantly Chabad continues to offer all members of our community opportunities to celebrate their Judaism in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Our flame continues to burn! Am Yisroel Chai!
